My JL is lifted with 5 inch (settled to (4.55 inches) springs and 38" tires. The relocation bracket raised my front yeti track bar and improved roll center which improved the handling. Combined with the no drill top mount drag link end, the steering is better as well. There were only a couple of minor issues (not complaints). 1. The steering stabilizer bolt now hits the tie rod at full right turn? I had the smaller steer smarts relocation bracket and the bolt didn't hit. Not sure why it does now. I can substitute for a different bolt, but not sure if that's 100% the correct thing to do. 2. the bracket clamps are awkward to get the in the perfect position ( so that they clamp across the split in the tube) to avoid hitting the frame and the tube that runs along the bottom of the radiator. I'm able to re-position it, but it's not clamped across the split as they're intended. I understand the design, and your tubes require this otherwise a solid tube with lock nuts at the end would be too thick. Just thinking about a different clamp design.
KEY NOTE to all lifted JL's- With the clamps in the correct position, top mount link will get very close to the frame and not rub if you bump stop correctly, BUT- make sure to re-mount and move that little tube and brackets that run under the radiator. It's easily done, but make sure you secure it well. That extra inch makes all the difference. Also you'll have a little more bump stop on the passenger side due to the link reaching it's limit before full stuff. As an example, my jeep has 5 inch fabtech springs, Patagonia 38's (actual height of 36.8 at 32psi) and with the correct bump stop the drag link will within 1/2 inch of the link and my tire will have about 3 fingers width of space between the highest point of the tire and my rugged ridge flat fenders (which are actually a little lower than the high mount rubicon stock fenders).
The packaging was excellent and both items arrived in great condition. Also I received good customer service each time that I called before I made this and a couple of other purchases.
Thanks
I had my Tie Rod and Drag Link installed by an well known off road shop in Burnsville MN. After fighting with steering issues for over a year, and bringing my Jeep back to be inspected and components retorqued several times, it was discovered that the shop failed to install the red tapered sleeves in both parts. The shop declined to take responsibility for their mistake stating "Those were your parts, so if something was missing...". I advised Andy of what the shop said, within 3 days I had 3 new ends at my front door. SteerSmarts had no obligation to do anything but sent me the parts I needed at an incredibly reduced rate and with free shipping. It was not SteerSmarts error and the instructions for the parts clearly stated the red tapered sleeves needed to be installed. Thanks again for the the excellent customer service.
I ordered the whole kit and it really helped with having 40 inch tires! I ordered the flip drag link thinking my lift was big enough and the company seen my mistake and got the correct parts out to me the same day! Not only great parts but also great customer service!!!
The only thing better than this drag link is Steersmarts customer service. I had ordered the wrong version for my JLUR and Steersmarts couldn’t have been more responsive and accommodating. The drag link makes my Jeep’s steering feel planted and solid! Highly recommended!
